R: My new rule, in the new year, is that I accept all invitations to go out when possible. Thus I've been attending a lot of random things, but also have gotten the chance to see some creative people in action (see: entry of Jan 29). Despite the general perception that I "go out all the time" now, my boredom has hardly been cured, and I'm a little confused by this. On the other hand, I do feel like things are getting better, particularly after my first dramatic performance of the year - a reading produced by a friend's theater company.

The music for the reading was actually quite good, catchy even. The writing was witty, though needed some work and got a little sticky towards the end. All in all an entertaining way to spend the night. AND there is the added benefit of INSPIRATION. It is slowly and painfully creeping toward me but I feel that I will catch up to that elusive muse soon. I just have to keep pursuing him in all his slippery naked glory.

C: Until recently I had been convincing myself that I was one of the lucky ones because I actually have a job. However, the dichotomy has persisted within our program, and doubts have crept into my thoughts. Nowadays, I find myself wishing I were elsewhere--even among the unemployed. If it weren't for the select few people I actually like and tasks I do wish to complete, I would probably be gone by now.

Because of this, R has been talking a lot about letting my creative-self flourish. I dropped my "Crisis Management & Emergency Preparedness" course in favor of a promise to devote time to alternate avenues of stimulation. Among those artistic outlets are cake decorating (initial attempt in my 29 Jan entry), logo creation (for R's organization's fb page; the website-that-never-happened for my office; and for an internship program), and sewing (which I picked up from Mommy G). So far, I've only managed to complete a few minor clothing alterations (hemmed bottoms, taking in a dress), a pin cushion (above), and pillows for R. Within the last year, I have purchased about a dozen dress patterns without a single frock coming from them thus far.

Hopefully by Spring (whenever that comes along...damn you, groundhog), I'll have more to show than needles and thread.
