R: I really need to work on this photography thing. It's nearly the end of the month and I'm still having trouble with lighting, especially at night. I'd like to blame it on my camera, but a lack of skill certainly doesn't help.
This painting was part of a fairly disturbing series featuring what appears to be Asian fetish. A friend of a friend of a friend of a friend invited me to this art show in the Gawker offices downtown, and most of the artwork was along these lines. Actually this particular artist was probably one of the "tamer" artists in the group. I really wish you could see the guy more clearly - a few glasses of wine unsteadied the hand - because his expression is classic. It registers clear surprise mingled with fear.
I like to think of it as 30 in 30.
C: This was a labor of love. Q, you don't have to worry about me showing you up on the frosting and piping skills. I'm definitely going to practice with the canned kind from now on. The real secret is making a frosting that is both delicious and the right consistency for piping. Now if only I can figure out the right recipe...definitely should have gone with a royal icing, not a buttercream. Oh well. Hope Fischer likes it!
