B - Why do you always take blurry pictures?
Me - Because I'm lazy and it's cold outside. Let's go.
C: I came home early enough today to catch a bit of Tyra's talk show. As ridiculous as I find all of her programs - including ANTM - I still feel compelled to watch her, despite her frequent narcissistic references. Today's episode was about stereotypes about Asian women. To her left, were four women of Asian descent, perfectly matched in black skirts and various silky tops in solid colors. To her right sat four men of varying backgrounds, each explaining why they exclusively date (or not) Asian women. Of course, the first guy was a doppelgänger for Schwarzenegger, complete with Austrian accent, super-tan and bulging veins. He mostly talked about how his Asian wife treats him like a king and more or less was his domestic and sexual slave; in the end, he looked like a bigger ass than before he even started talking. Another man described his years of military service and being stationed in Korea, and how he fell in love with "the culture" and subsequently the women. While I can appreciate this justification to some degree, I was unconvinced when his love of Korean culture indiscriminately extended to all Asian cultures. Others talked about their physical attraction exclusively (which is fair, I suppose, if not honest at least), while others came back to the submissiveness stereotype. Ugh.
However, what annoyed me most is that the one guy of Asian descent on the "panel" was obviously awkward and far less attractive (if any of them were at all). Tyra simultaneously attacked him and sympathized with him about whether he felt "dissed" by Asian women in favor of Black or White men. Of course, he replied by insisting that he "isn't intimidated", which was really not the question, and then by adding that he dates many different kinds of women. Fail.
