R: It was absolutely miserable today in New York. I woke up thinking the meteorologist was wrong again, as I could hear the rain drops hitting the concrete from my bed. But surprise! When I walked outside the rain was actually big sopping wet snow falling from the sky like God's dandruff. It was disappearing as soon as it hit the ground, but I thought if it kept snowing at a steady pace like that, eventually a layer of slush would form - yum.

Unfortunately, I was planning on heading to Pennsylvania to visit Rosama and H that evening after work. I called R several times during the day to get the weather status and by 2 p.m. it was decided I should just take the train into Philly and then the regional line to Malvern, where I would be picked up. It turned out to be a decent trip with no delays despite the abysmal winter weather. Nevertheless, I was happy when we finally pulled up to the little cottage on the hill. It's just so pleasant here with the trees and cute little fireplace. I suppose I'm being sentimental but I'm just get so tired of the city in the winter.

C: Biannually, the School of Public Health holds a ceremony to recognize long-term service employees at 5-, 10-, 15- and all the way up to 35-years. Two of our very own - Charlotte and Don - were being honored today for their 5- and 20-years, respectively, of being with Harvard. Lylo and I popped in just long enough to see Char get recognized, but not after a "prelude" (as described in the program) of some serious early 2000s tracks and a brief history-of-the-world slideshow, circa 2004. The latter turned out to be a rather thinly-veiled tribute to Boston sports teams. The biggest star, of course, was the Red Sox and their 2004 World Series win and "end of the curse of the Bambino". After a 90-second clip of the final home run (well, I assume it was the last moment of the game), the audience even felt moved to applaud. Don't save it for the staff or anything.
