R: Every now and then I come across a great deal and share it with friends. This week it happened to be a $15 two-course meal plus glass of wine at a random place in St. Mark's. My friend and co-worker B Smith decided to spread the word at the office, and thus, we had a Friday date night with the Riis crew, or part of it at least. If I worked anywhere else besides the Riis I suppose this wouldn't be such an event but we are a rough crowd of highly dysfunctional, slightly crazed do-gooders and organization is not our strong point. Neither is getting through a night without whining.
It was fun, of course.
C: It was a toss-up between Domino's new pizza and this miter saw. I've had pizza three times this week from three different restaurants (Crispy Crust, il Mundo and Domino's of Roxbury Crossing - i know, thank god i have good genes), and I thought for sure that pizza box with the tale of D's new recipe would be it. After work, however, my coworker Pelucito drove M and me to Home Depot, and I decided that the magnitude of riding in a car to Watertown to buy a miter saw trumped the fact that I've eaten pizza three times this week. Let's be honest, I'm sure that will happen several times over the year.
On the other hand, the saw has been on the list-of-things-to-do for months now. I really need to be neat and tidy, and the kitten's arrival last summer has caused me to go into an OCD overdrive. She really is a lovely cat, but her litter box is quite the eyesore. M has been promising me (among other things) that he would build a house around it, one inspired by the models he has built for class. This saw is a major step toward fulfillment of those promises. What is a better way to end the first week of the new year, but with a move toward progress?
