R: Sometimes it's so hot in my office, even I can't stand it. Today I kept swiveling around in my chair expecting to see naked fat men sweating it out by the copier - lord it was hot in there!
The only reprieve is in the bathroom, which I visit frequently for various reasons: to gas, to take a nap, to check my makeup, to make faces at myself in the mirror, to smell my armpits, to hide from co-workers...the list is endless. Usually it gets sauna-like in there as well (it's a single stall), but there's a small window by the sink which you can open and put your face up to for a nice breeze. The view isn't much - we're caged in due to the extreme likelihood that the neighbors are drug dealers, rapists and outright hooligans - but it's as good a spot as any to look out and yearn to be free.
C: I know it's hardly insightful, but today was cold. Some of our Nigerian physicians from Lagos are visiting, and it was surprising to see that it was possible for others to be colder than I. They persisted in wearing full outerwear throughout the day, even indoors. I caught myself fantasizing about cranking the thermostat to 85F and using them as an excuse: "Shouldn't we cater to our guests?!"
Anyway, what I really wanted was a photo (or snap, as they would say) of the three of them huddling around the back office table, thumbing their Blackberry's and holding hot coffee between their gloved hands. While my regular Boston coworkers might not find it strange for me to paparazzo around the office, I refrained from trying to sneak a shot (R's favorite, haha). Instead I took a mental image, and on the way home decided that - though technically still too early to celebrate - the "Year of the Tiger" sculpture around the corner from my apartment would represent this icy day.
